Halloween Celebrations

Happy Halloween! It’s my favorite time of year. October has been an incredible month, but this year it’s particularly special: I got married! Our wedding day was absolutely perfect, spent with our loved ones in Thomasville (South Georgia). It was easily the best day of my life, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Seth & I went on our honeymoon in the lovely New England area, and it was filled with cozy autumn vibes with a spooky twist. Visiting local cemeteries was my favorite! There were also a lot of festivities for the holiday, and so much beautiful scenery in the Salem area.

Our amazing wedding photography was captured by Signa Photo Collective.

Aside from personal affairs, this month sure was busy with Inktober! I once again made my own list to follow, and I decided to go with a classic spooky Halloween theme this year! Even though I wasn’t able to finish all 31 drawings, it was still fun to work on the ones I did complete. I feel as though my skills with ink have improved, even from just these few practice illustrations! They’re definitely inspired by tattoo culture, so it was exciting to explore a new style. You can see my finished pieces below! My personal favorites are Day 01: Ghost & Day 04: Coffin.

It was also so cool to see other people participate using my prompts! You can see all of their amazing entries on Instagram using the hashtag #sadinktober21.

I also had the honor of being a selected artist for the “Tombs, Tombstones, and Monuments” section in Light Grey Art Lab’s exhibition: The End is Nigh. I created a handcarved woodcut based off of Victorian gravestone imagery & floral symbolism. Hands were often used on tombstones, and clasped hands with collared sleeves often denoted love beyond death. I also used chrysanthemums, which are common funerary flowers. I’m so happy with how this piece turned out (even though my hands hurt afterwards), and it will be available for purchase in my next shop update on November 20th. This project was such a joy to work on, and I highly recommend checking out the entire gallery of work. Preorders for the book with everyone’s art & writing in it are also available in LGAL’s shop!
