Headfirst into 2025
The new year is just around the corner, and I can hardly believe how fast 2024 flew by. This post is going to be a short & sweet one, to recap these past 12 months as well as give a glimpse into what I have planned for 2025. Let’s dive in!
In my blog post back in January, I made a list of New Years resolutions that I hoped to keep up with this year. Let’s see how we did:
Keeping up with this blog: I’m rather proud of the work I did to maintain this space! Even though I didn’t post every 1-2 months as initially planned, I think having a seasonal newsletter was a good balance. Working on graphics really helped me enjoy the times & reflect on what was accomplished.
Not spending any money on art supplies: Oh, I super nailed this one. I did not spend a single penny on new supplies this year! I also made a small dent in what I already have, and I’m sure next year will be even better.
Not buying any books until I’ve read the ones I already own: Oops, this one I did less well on. To be fair, I did cut back much more this year, read a good number of my physical TBR books, and mostly used gift cards (so that doesn’t count, right?).
Create larger-scale pieces: I started two “large” pieces this year, but did not end up finishing them. However, I did end up getting around to making a lot of pieces that I had been planning for a while!
Improve my foundational art skills: Even though this was mainly to get me to complete the Domestika classes I purchased last year, I still feel like I did get a little better! I started two of the courses to help me with some of my work projects, but I still need to finish them.
Make all of my gifts, rather than buy them: Mostly successful, and I’m quite happy with how they turned out. I was worried that I’d end up rushing them, but slowing down to enjoy the process was certainly rewarding. I did buy a few store-bought gifts, but overall I handmade 90% of the presents I gave this year!
Cook more: Even though Seth still is the main chef in our home, I have been experimenting with new recipes! It’s been fun expanding my repertoire.
Improve my skating skills: HAHA - I did not skate ONCE this year.
Read at least 50 books: I officially completed 26 books this year, so a little more than half! We should also be friends on Goodreads if we aren’t already.
Overall, I’d say that I’m proud of what I was able to achieve this year. It’s amazing to see what you can accomplish in 365 days! Here’s to seeing what the next chapter will bring.
Looking forward to 2025, I don’t think I have any super specific resolutions that are too different from last year’s goals. Let’s keep them simple:
Continue to not spend any money on art supplies, unless I need something specific. No more browsing Michael’s just to “see what they have” anymore!
Don’t buy any books until I finish the ones I already own.
Finish all of the Domestika courses I’ve signed up for.
Stop trying to “plan” my art so much, and make what I want to make when the inspiration hits.
Paint a few landscapes.
Read 40 books in the year.
Improve my physical health in general (be more active, eat better, etc.)
And with that, I will be logging off for the rest of 2024. Happy New Year, everyone!
Love always,
Stephanie
