Trillium catesbaei

Catesby’s Trillium is a spring perennial herb. Native to the southeastern United States, these plants spread through underground rhizomes that can grow up to 45cm tall. The white-to-rosy pink flowers are hidden underneath the herb’s bracts, which gives them the common name of bashful wakerobin or rosy wakerobin. Catesby’s Trillium was named by botanist Stephen Elliot after naturalist Mark Catesby, who illustrated the plant in 1730. They are often symbols of purity, renewal, and fresh starts. The three petals of the flower are sometimes associated with the Holy Trinity as well.
