Rhododendron calendulaceum
Flame Azaleas are a deciduous shrub native to the Appalachian mountains. Preferring rocky or dry mountain woods, these plants occur naturally in the deciduous forests of the Appalachian mountain balds & woodland slopes. Flame Azaleas are a highly variable species when it comes to their color, ranging from bright yellow to deep reds. Natural light may influence the change in color, though the flower’s hues often deepen with age. They get their name from their appearance, resembling small fires, and are occasionally associated with passion.
