Hydrangea macrophylla
Hydrangea are flowering plants native to Asia & the Americas. Often blooming in summer, the blossoms range from pink to blue in color. Its scientific name “macrophylla” references its large, serrated leaves. On the other hand, “Hydrangea” comes from the Greek word for “water vessel” due to the shape of its seeds. Hydrangeas do not typically produce many, which - coupled with the large, round flowerhead - led to the deciduous shrub becoming a symbol of boastfulness. In folklore, it is thought to be able to break hexes by scattering the bark around the home.
